Sag Harbor Fire Department - Suffolk County, New York

The Sag Harbor Fire Department is one of the oldest chartered fire departments in New York State. It was considered a civic duty and an honorable distinction to belong to the fire company. Robert Fordham and Benjamin Huntting were the among the first fire captains - two good old Eastern Long Island names. The Fordhams were mariners and inn keepers, the Hunttings were engaged in maritime industry: ship building and sending out cargo carrier and whaling vessels.
